INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - An Indianapolis man was arrested Monday night after he endangered the life of his 3-year-old child.
Officers were called to the 2000 block of North Tibbs Avenue just after 8:30 p.m. Monday night on a disturbance between two people.
Police say a woman was having problems with the father of her children. The woman said he was drunk and wanted him to turn over the key to her apartment and leave.
Police were able to get the key from the man, identified as Major Jones, 53, of Indianapolis, who they say had blood shot eyes and slurred speech. He agreed to stay with a friend a few blocks away.
Police were called to the area again about 20 minutes later because Jones took their 3-year-old daughter and was holding her while bicycling into traffic.
Police were able to stop him around 20th Street and Moreland Avenue.
Jones was arrested and preliminary charged with neglect of a dependent and public intoxication.
The girl was returned to her mother.
Three fires sent three different families out into the cold overnight.
The state of Indiana turns 197 on Wednesday.
The Indiana Motor Sports Commission approved the plans to move forward with a number of improvements at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
