INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department confirms one of the two men shot Thursday night on the northwest side died.
Officers were called to the Hunter's Run Apartment complex just after 10 p.m. Thursday. That's where they discovered one man shot in the head.
"It's just senseless. This violence has got to stop. It's got to stop. I just wish these kids would put down these guns. They solve nothing", said a family member of the victim.
That victim has been identified as 20-year-old Reginald Hill.
A second victim, 21-year-old Larry Cole, was discovered minutes later in a parking lot at Lafayette Square Mall. He remains in serious condition at Wishard Memorial Hospital.
Police say they don't know if the shootings are related but are confident this was not a random act.
These shootings happened less than a day before a planned prayer vigil and walk to stop the violence.
Community and faith-based leaders, along with IMPD, plan to walk through some of the city's highest crime areas every Friday and Saturday in April to reach out to young people in particular.
So far this year, 31 murders have been reported in Indianapolis.
The goal of these vigils, organizers say, is to stop the violence before it starts.
"Every homicide affects 100 people, so we're trying to bring healing to those individuals who are suffering the most so we don't have retaliation, so we don't have individuals making choices based on the fact that they don't have other options," said IMPD Chaplain David Coatie.
If you have information on either of the shootings Thursday night, call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 317-262-TIPS.
