INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A scary moped ride for an indianapolis teenager.
He says a suspect forced him to drive at gunpoint for miles, then stole the bike.
His father, Mike Wade, says he's appalled.
"Just a kid, doing kid things on a sunny day. It's ridiculous," said Wade. "He put a pistol on him, and told him to take off."
Wade says his son had stopped at a convenience store with his moped, near Traub Street on the city's near west side.
He says a man approached him and asked him to buy it, but he said no.
"When he came out of the store, that's when he jumped on, and the guy jumped on the moped with him," explained Wade. "Showed him the pistol, and told him, ‘Let's go,'"
Wade says they drove nearly three miles, all the way to School 61 near Eagledale and 30 th.
"If he's desperate enough to pull a pistol on 15, 16 year old kids, nobody out here is safe," said Wade.
The teen told his dad the suspect told him to get off in that school parking lot, and the suspect drove away with the moped.
"I'm just appalled. I mean, you can't walk the streets anymore," added Wade. "Simple possessions. Somebody wants to pull a pistol on you and take it from you – especially a kid. I don't understand what's going on in this city."
According to the police report, the suspect is described as a teen himself, 16-18 years old. He has an identifying tattoo on his upper chest: a name, with the first two letters being "A" and "R."
The mo-ped is described as a black Honda Elite with red duct tape over a broken tail light.
Police also say, if you are alone at any store: stay vigilant.
They say that teenager did the right thing, by cooperating with the suspect, and not fighting back.
