INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Two students were robbed at gunpoint outside Westlane Middle School after finishing up an evening jog, the teenagers told police.
According to police, the suspect forced the teens to the ground and demanded their cell phones. The bearded man told the two not to look back as he walked away with their phones.
"How low can you go? I can't believe the guy is still walking around," said Danny Holmes, the father of one of the victims.
Since the robbery, Holmes said his daughter is unable to sleep at night, and that every sound she hears at night wakes her up.
"You can't run to the school, run track or play baseball anymore without some manic sticking a gun to a 16-year-old's head over a cell phone," said Holmes
Police were called and during their investigation they received another call of a robbery in the same area. The suspect matched the same description. In the second robbery, a man snatched an iPad from a 12-year-old boy.
No arrests were made. However, police did track one of the stolen cell phones several blocks away, but it wasn't found.
Police have a very vague description of the suspect. He is described as a black male, 5-foot-9, thin build with a beard.
In an interesting twist, the suspect never asked for money — only the cell phones.
Joggers were back at the track on Friday afternoon. Many had no clue what happened there on Thursday. As news started to spread about the robbery, one man said he would warn his sons to be careful.
"Always be in groups, especially at the dusk. Never be alone," said jogger Scott Andrews.
Currently, school is not in session at the middle school.
Anyone with information about the robberies is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS.
