HENDRICKS COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) - Hendricks County officers say a shooting has been ruled accidental after teenagers fired a gun in a home, striking a woman one floor below.
The shooting happened in the 5700 block of Ridgehill Way in the Prestwick subdivision off of U.S. 36 and 525 East.
According to police, two teenagers were handling a loaded gun in the bedroom of a home. The teens accidentally fired a round through the floor, striking Rachel Myers, 18, who was downstairs in the bathroom changing clothes.
The shooter was the 19-year-old son of the homeowner. The teen's mother and stepfather were home at the time of the shooting.
Authorities say Myers suffered a gunshot wound and was flown to St. Vincent Hospital.
The incident has been ruled accidental. The woman is in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries to her thighs.
