ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - A three-year-old boy is in critical condition after he nearly drowned in Bowman Lake at Fox Island County Park Sunday afternoon around 12:15 p.m.
Jeremy Tinkle, a spokesperson for the Allen County Sheriff's Department, said the boy was found underneath the water in the roped off area of the lake by another swimmer. That swimmer pulled the boy out of the water and brought him to shore.
Tinkle said a civilian gave the boy CPR on the shore area of the lake until medics arrived.
The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition, according to Tinkle. He said police and DNR officials are unsure of how long the boy was underneath the water.
There are no lifeguards on duty at Bowman Lake.
Fox Island's website specifically states, "Bowman Lake – Swimming beach – No lifeguard on duty, swim at your own risk"
Fox Island is located at 7324 Yohne Road.
