INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — An eastern Indiana jailer faces a federal child exploitation charge after authorities found explicit images of a minor female on his video camera and thumb computer drive.
Franklin County Reserve Deputy Derek Walton of Liberty is being held after appearing Monday in federal court in Indianapolis. The Richmond Palladium-Item reports a detention hearing is scheduled for Friday. It's not clear whether Walton has an attorney.
Federal prosecutors say they traced two email accounts used to transmit child pornography to the 31-year-old Walton. One of the accounts was accessed repeatedly from the Franklin County Security Center in Brookville, about 65 miles southeast of Indianapolis.
Walton has been a Franklin County reserve deputy since 2004 and previously worked in law enforcement in Union County, Richmond and the town of Laurel.
