PRAIRIETON, Ind. (AP) — Authorities say a 5-year-old girl was seriously hurt when she was hit by a golf car driven by her 11-year-old sister in a small western Indiana town.
The Vigo County Sheriff's Department says the girls were riding Sunday in the golf cart in the community of Prairieton, going through a pothole to splash water.
Chief Deputy Clark Cottom says the younger girl apparently stood up and fell out when the cart hit the pothole. The girl was hit by the cart and suffered head injuries.
Cottom says the girl was taken in serious condition by helicopter to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. The cart's owner and the girls' mother told investigators that the girls had driven the golf cart around the neighborhood many times without troubles.
