GREENSBURG, Ind. (AP) — Honda is marking the fifth anniversary of when it started producing cars at its southeastern Indiana factory.
The company's Greensburg factory turned out its first Honda Civic sedans on Oct. 9, 2008, with about 1,000 workers at the plant. Honda officials say the factory now has more than 2,000 employees also building the Civic Natural Gas, the Acura ILX, Acura ILX Hybrid and the Civic Hybrid.
The company says the factory about 50 miles southeast of Indianapolis has produced more than 650,000 vehicles and now has the capacity to build 250,000 a year.
Honda Manufacturing of Indiana president Bob Nelson says the company has had great support from its local communities and the state and that it is excited about its future in Greensburg.
