GARY, Ind. (AP) — Gary leaders and state transportation officials are commemorating the city's historic streetcar rail line with a new historic marker that will be unveiled this week.
The marker at the corner of 5th Avenue and Broadway will feature a photograph of streetcars traveling through the intersection around 1913. It also will include a brief history of the rail line that began operating in 1908.
Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson and Indiana Department of Transportation officials will attend Friday's unveiling of the marker.
