LIGONIER, Ind. (WANE) - Police said alcohol was a factor in a fatal crash in Noble County. The Noble County Sheriff's Department responded to a call of a single-car crash at 825 Morton Street in Ligonier around 5:14 p.m. Saturday.
Police said Oscar Rodriguez, 24, of Cromwell, was driving a 2002 Lincoln LLS eastbound on Morton Street from Gold Street. Rodriguez went off the south side of the road and when he corrected, he lost control of the vehicle and started to slide.
Police said his car slid sideways into the westbound lane and then went off the north side of the road into a ditch. The car finally stopped when it hit a tree.
Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the scene, our sister station WANE reports.
His passenger, Karol Rodriguez, 21, of Ligonier was airlifted to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. Police said he had leg and upper body injuries.
