INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Anderson Police have filed charges against 20-year-old Amber Portwood following an investigation that started with the airing of MTV reality show Teen Mom.
The probable cause affidavit alleges Portwood battered 24-year-old Gary Shirley on three different occasions.
Police say Portwood struck Shirley several times while cameras were filming an episode of the hit show.
According to police documents, Portwood shoved Shirley against a wall, slapped him on the face and choked him. They say the couple's infant witnessed the incident.
The alleged incidents happened on Aug. 14, June 14 and July 18.
Portwood is charged with one misdemeanor count of domestic battery and two felony counts as the violence was committed in the presence of their child. Under Indiana law (35-42-2-1.3) domestic violence is a (class D) felony when committed in the presence of a child less than 16 years of age.
