Crime Stoppers hosts Shred Day event

CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) – Thousands of people across central Indiana took steps to protect their personal information by participating in Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana’s Shred Day event. WISH-TV is a proud sponsor.

The semi-annual event provides an opportunity to shred personal or unwanted papers and recycle electronics. The event also served as a drug take back event. First responders were on hand to collect and dispose of unwanted prescription drugs.

There were five drop-off locations across central Indiana.

“Identity theft kind of drove this,” said Bill Patton of Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana. “It caught on and we can help protect peoples identity by shredding things correctly, both electronics and paper.”

Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana hosts Shred Day twice a year as a fundraiser for its rewards fund.
