Family seeks answers after missing woman’s body found

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The family of Jaime Beasley is seeking answers after a church group found her body over the weekend. Beasley vanished December 15. Her family says she was found 700 feet away from where she was last seen; her boyfriend’s house. 

The question is no longer, “where is Jaime Beasley?” It’s now, “what happened to her?”

“We don’t care how long it takes. We will get answers and will get justice,” said Chrissy Wecht, Beasley’s aunt. 

A memorial, along the side of 20th Street near Riley Avenue on the city’s east side, marks the spot where Beasley’s body was found. In a note, loved ones promise, “We’ll never stop fighting for you.”

“I’m lost. I hurt. I feel empty. I’ve lost my best friend pretty much. I’ve been inseparable with her since we were kids,” said Casey Dewitt, Beasley’s cousin.

Dewitt recounts the day her cousin disappeared. Beasley had been fighting with her boyfriend according to Dewitt, and that was the last anyone heard from her.

“He was jittery when I went over there to get her stuff,” Dewitt recalled after Beasley disappeared. 

Investigators have not identified a suspect, nor made any arrests in the case. In fact, police aren’t considering the case a homicide at this time. It’s a death investigation. 24-Hour News 8 is not naming Beasley’s boyfriend because police have not identified him as a suspect. 

Over the weekend, a church group who was doing neighborhood cleanup discovered Beasley’s body. According to her loved ones, the discovery was made less than a block from where her boyfriend lives. 

“I just can’t see her walking down to that creek by herself and just dying,” said Dewitt. 

But what they can see? Hope, that Beasley is in a better place. 

“That’s the only thing that’s keeping me held together is knowing that she’s not suffering. She’s not in pain,” said Dewitt. 

Beasley leaves behind a 10-year-old daughter. Family members have set up a Go Fund Me page to help with funeral costs.
