MITCHELL, Ind. (WISH) - Smoke from a fire in Lawrence County has lead to the closure of Mitchell Community and North Lawrence schools Friday.
According to a post on Mitchell Community schools's website, the smoke is from a fire at the Fibertech plant.
The message from the school goes on to say that "employees should not report to work.
Employees from nearby businesses say smoke can still be seen.
The fire actually stared yesterday and is still burning. According to a spokesperson with national guard, a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter being manned by three soldiers is en route to help extinguish the fire.
Prior to the announcement from the School, The Lawrence County Emergency Management posted a message on Facebook instructing Mitchell residents to stay in doors due to Fibertech fire.
