Unusual Lawrence chase ends in arrest

LAWRENCE, Ind. (WISH) — A domestic situation Monday night in Lawrence led to shots fired and a vehicle chase, according to authorities.

A woman and a group of friends confronted her boyfriend at a mobile home park near Pendleton Pike and Post Road over suspicions he had been unfaithful, Lawrence Police said.

A man fired what appeared to be a sawed off shotgun during the heated confrontation, according to Deputy Police Chief Gary Woodruff, striking a man in a nearby vehicle.

The bystander was either struck by debris or grazed by a pellet and was not seriously injured, police told News 8.

However, officials said the incident prompted him to initiate a car chase. The pursuit came to an end around 1:30 a.m. at Mitthoeffer Road and Pendleton Pike.

No serious injuries were reported.

The unidentified suspect who fired the gun was taken into custody and charged with criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and invasion of privacy for violating a protection order.

Police could not confirm additional arrests or charges Tuesday morning.
