INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - At Pure Eatery in Fountain Square, owner Jason Jacobi knows the importance of quick work.
"As long as everything is prepared, if you're ready for it, then the execution can go really fast," said Jacobi.
So when Jacobi made his daily drive along Interstate 65 Thursday morning, he was shocked.
"I looked over and I thought, 'Oh my gosh!'" Jacobi said.
The South Split shutdown was no longer shut down. The cars and trucks that had been detouring in front of his restaurant were back where they belong.
"Originally the project was supposed to last 59 days, which is what Milestone bid and that in itself was an aggressive schedule. They were able to complete the work in 44 days," said Nathan Riggs with the Indiana Department of Transportation.
The project was finished 15 days early.
"For starters, the weather was really great over the last few weeks but, beyond that, they just worked really, really hard. They had crews working nearly 24/7 getting the work done and they were efficient with their resources," said Riggs.
Riggs says it was because of incentives.
For each day Milestone finished early, the company was promised $60,000. Multiply that by 15 days and they're raking in close to a million dollars, just in incentives.
"Not all projects do have those financial incentives. Typically they're tied with high profile or high traffic areas, just to give a boost to that sense of urgency that this needs to be done on time or as quickly as possible," said Riggs.
But Riggs admits with the success that's been tied to incentives, it's a tactic INDOT is using more frequently.
As a business owner, it's one Jacobi understands.
"It just goes to show what you can do with a lot of teamwork," Jacobi said.
