INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Detectives have arrested a man they believe critically injured an 8-year-old child during a disturbance Wednesday night.
Police arrested 38-year-old Alfred Amos on two preliminary felony charges of aggravated battery, a Class B felony, and battery, a Class B felony.
Amos is believed to have thrown a sledgehammer that struck and critically injured an 8-year-old male and slightly injured a 12-year-old female during a disturbance on Priscilla Avenue Wednesday night.
The 8-year-old remains in critical condition at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health. The 12-year-old was also taken to Riley, but has since been treated and released.
The Marion County Prosecutor's Office will make a final charging decision.
