INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - An attempted theft of a transformer sparked a building fire Friday evening on south Holt Road.
At 6:15 p.m., firefighters from both Wayne Township and Decatur Township were called on a report of a building on fire in the 2500 block of South Holt Road.
When they arrived, they found a high voltage transformer on fire.
After they put out the fire, investigators were able to determine that someone had tied a rope to the transformer in an attempt to steal the unit by trying to drag it away with a vehicle.
When thieves realized the transformer was still energized they fled.
The warehouse was vacant and signs were present of prior theft and vandalism to the property.
