MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — A Ball State University theater graduate who has starred in films with Denzel Washington and Halle Berry says her return to Muncie for a production of "Dreamgirls" ''feels like coming back home."
Cynda Williams plays Deena in the production at Muncie Civic Theatre.
She tells The Star Press that she took the role after getting a call from friend Todd Sandman, the theater's executive director. The two performed together at the theater decades ago.
Williams has appeared in more than 25 films and nine TV movies. Those include Spike Lee's "Mo' Better Blues" and HBO's "The Wedding" in 1998.
She's been concentrating on live theater lately to allow her to stay closer to home to be with her 12-year-old daughter.
