INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Don Bates kicked off a bid for State Treasurer Tuesday.
Bates is a financial planner with Tea Party ties who hopes to win the party nomination at the 2014 State GOP convention. He is a former candidate for Congress.
Bates joins two other Republicans who are already campaigning, Marion Mayor Wayne Seybold, and a current employee in the Treasurer's office, Kelly Mitchell.
He will play up his experience in business.
"We need a leader who will treat taxpayers like clients and customers," he said during a brief rally at the Statehouse, "instead of people who make their lives more difficult. We need a businessman and not another government bureaucrat."
Treasurer Richard Mourdock cannot run for re-election due to a term limit.
