INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - IMPD officers were looking for a man they say shot another man in a carjacking early Wednesday morning on the city's northeast side.
Officers were called to the parking lot of a Marathon Gas Station, 3402 N. Keystone Ave., located near 34th Street and North Keystone Avenue shortly before 1 a.m. on a report of a man shot.
Investigators say the man was shot in the lower right abdomen.
The man said he was getting gas when an unknown suspect approached him and showed him a handgun. The victim told police the suspect struck him in the head, fired a shot which hit him in the stomach and took off in the victim’s 2003 Dodge Ram heading west on 34th Street.
The victim was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital.
Witnesses at the scene say the suspect and victim fired shots at each other. Police found a gun behind the gas station’s dumpster. Bullet shells casings from another gun were also found on the scene.
Police found the truck in the area of East 38th Street and North Oxford Avenue. The suspect inside the vehicle fled from the truck on foot in the 2600 block of East 35th Street. Police did not find the suspect although K-9 units did find a loaded gun lodged into a tree in the 3500 block of North Rural Street.
