DECATUR COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) - A Decatur County man was injured after crashing an ATV he was operating Wednesday evening.
24-Hour News 8 news partner The Greensburg Daily News reports Jacob P. Benefiel, 20, was airlifted to Methodist Hospital following the accident. His condition was unknown as of Thursday.
Indiana Department of Natural Resources responded to the crash just before 8 p.m. on County Road 1050 West. Witness at the scene told officers Benefiel was operating the ATV at a high rate of speed when he hit a dirt berm. The vehicle flew through the air and landed on the front wheels; Benefiel was thrown over the handlebars and landed on the ground. The ATV then rolled on top of him knocking him unconscious.
Investigators believe alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the incident.
