SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (WISH) - Shelbyville Police Department has a person of interest and is investigating after a 22-month-old died on Tuesday.
Shelbyville Police Chief Bill Elliott says his department has a criminal investigation into the matter. On Thursday, the Marion County coroner's office reported the toddler died from blunt force trauma to the head.
The manner of death for the child was ruled homicide. Jasper Simpson was taken to Major Hospital in Shelbyville Monday after he was reportedly not breathing. He was airlifted to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health in Indianapolis, where he died Tuesday night.
Elliott said the investigation into the toddler's death will take time. Investigators are awaiting the pathologist's report.
While the department has a person of interest, no one has been arrested or charged in connection to the boy's death.
The Boone County Sheriff's Office says a crash closed State Road 39 on Friday morning.
