ANDERSON,Ind. (WISH) - A serious crash in Anderson, late Thursday, involving a car and a semi, sent five juveniles to the hospital.
Anderson police and emergency medical crews were called to the west side intersection of 16th Street and Raible Avenue shortly after 11 p.m.
Residents near the intersection said they heard what sounded like a gunshot and ran out of the homes to see what happened.
When they came upon the mangled wreckage they said they could hear people screaming.
The neighbors tended to the injured until paramedics arrived.
Five ambulances were called to the scene. Two of the more seriously injured were flown to an Indianapolis hospital. Three of the injured were transported to hospitals in Anderson.
Officers at the scene said the semi driver was not hurt.
Investigators say the semi driver had the green light while the car driver had a red light.
Hazardous material crews were on the scene for several hours cleaning up diesel fuel that spilled onto the road.
