SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) - A crash Tuesday on Ind. 44 in Shelby County killed one man and trapped two people in another vehicle.
The Shelby County Sheriff's Department said a silver Dodge SUV crossed the center line on Ind. 44 near Shelby County Road 650 East for an unknown reason, Deputies found the SUV in a ditch on the north side of the road, with the driver, a 50-year-old woman, and a 10-year-old boy trapped inside. The driver was freed and flown to Methodist Hospital. The child was taken by Shelbyville medics to Major Hospital. Their conditions were unknown Tuesday night.
A black Mazda was found in the ditch on the south side of the road, with the driver trapped inside and unresponsive. Efforts to revive the driver were unsuccessful, and the 29-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators said he was not wearing a seat belt.
An investigation is ongoing.
A winter storm warning is in effect for most of Central Indiana.
