FAYETTE CO., Ind. (WISH) - Officials say there was a potentially volatile situation at the west edge of Connersville on State Road 44 after a tanker truck overturned, spilling 700-800 gallons of paint thinner on the road.
Paint thinner is considered a highly flammable liquid.
The truck overturned at 7:10 a.m. Tuesday morning. Firefighters closed the road and say the road will be closed for most of the day in both directions. The detour is Grand Avenue to Ziegler Road to Gray Road.
Connersville Police Department dispatch says HAZMAT crews were called to investigate. Firefighters, a recovery unit and a foam truck were also on the scene.
Dispatchers say the clean-up will take until the early hours of Wednesday morning. The road will remain closed until then.
Three or four homes in the area were evacuated due to fumes that occurred just after the tanker overturned.
There are no reports of injuries.
Police were searching for suspects early Saturday morning in connection to a burglary that occurred on the city's north side.
