ELWOOD, Ind. (Herald Bulletin) - The son of Elwood Mayor Ron Arnold is facing three felony charges for allegedly shaking an infant.
20-year-old Tyler Arnold was arrested Friday. Police say he and the infant’s mother, Kaylee Kelley, face felony charges for the alleged mistreatment of the child, 24-Hour News 8’s news partner The Herald Bulletin reports.
Police say Kelley brought the infant to the hospital Sunday night after the baby began to have seizure-like behavior.
Doctors indicated the baby suffered brain trauma and subdural hemorrhaging consistent with a lack of oxygen. There was also an apparent fracture in the baby’s left leg. Doctors believe the damage was caused by violent shaking and could be permanent.
Kelley told investigators she once saw Arnold shake the baby while telling him to “be quiet.”
She said she was scared to tell police because Arnold allegedly told her they would go to jail if they took the baby to the hospital.
Arnold was taken to the Madison County Jail and faces charges of aggravated battery, a Class D felony; criminal recklessness, a Class D felony; and neglect of a dependent, a Class B felony.
