HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) - Rescue crews in Hamilton County responded to a car into a pond and started a water rescue Saturday night.
Authorities say a white SUV went into a retention pond near State Road 32 and Sanibel Circle in the Sandpiper Lakes subdivision. The vehicle was fully submerged.
The accident happened around 8:20 p.m. Shortly after 9:20 p.m. one person was pulled from the water and taken by medical helicopter to a hospital.
State Road 32 was shut down so the medical helicopter could land.
The man who was pulled from the car died sometime overnight. He has been identified as 22-year-old Alexander Cottom of Noblesville.
24-Hour News 8 learned from a witness that the car left the roadway and crashed into the pond. That witness says he only saw one person in the car.
The investigation is ongoing and the primary cause of the accident has not been determined.
