HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) - The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office responded to a fatal crash Friday evening.
Authorities say the crash happened at Strawtown Avenue and Prairie Baptist Road in the eastern part of the county. The initial report from the scene was that a single motorcycle was involved.
Deputies arrived shortly before 6 p.m. and found the motorcycle and driver nearby in a bean field on the south side of Strawtown Ave.
The driver, identified as 50-year-old Darin Ibey, was pronounced dead at the scene.
An initial investigation showed Ibey was traveling eastbound on Strawtown Ave. when for an unknown reason the motorcycle he was driving left the roadway.
The Sheriff's Office says there were no witnesses to the crash. Ibey was found by a passing motorist. It was unclear when the crash occurred.
Authorities say Ibey was not wearing a helmet. The accident is under investigation. The initial report indicated there was no sign of excessive speed or intoxication.
Strawtown Avenue was closed for a period of time while police investigated. The road has since reopened.
Toxicology and autopsy results are pending.
