CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) - I-Team 8 has been told by several sources that the Carmel HighSchool seniors accused of sexually assaulting a freshman on thebasketball team bus will be charged with misdemeanor and not felonycharges.
The charges will be announced at a joint press conference by thetwo prosecutors from Hamilton and Hendricks counties.
The seniors will turn themselves into Hamilton Countyauthorities sometime after the charges are announced on Monday, thesources say.
The case went to a grand jury and Hamilton County is awaiting afew more signatures from grand jury members before charges arefiled.
Also expected on Monday, the Carmel Clay School Board says itwill look at a new anti-hazing policy.
The policy reads, "Hazing shall be defined for purposes of thispolicy as performing any act or coercing another, including thevictim, to perform any act of initiation into any class, group ororganization that causes or creates a risk of causing mental,emotional or physical harm. Permission, consent or assumption ofrisk by an individual subjected to hazing shall not lessen theprohibitions contained in this policy."
