INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The search for 90 new IMPD recruits is underway and thousands are interested.
Hundreds showed up for two testing sessions Friday. The test is the first step in the process of finding potential recruit candidates.
While it is only the first step in a long process, the testing consultant, Courtney Baker, said it could be the most important.
"Most of the time the written exam is a pass fail type situation. If you do not pass the written you do not move on to the following stages," said Baker.
Hope Carrico currently works for the Marion County Sheriff's Department and she said she'd like to move to IMPD.
"I've always wanted to do this. I don't think I've wanted to do anything else. I've been in law enforcement for a few years, and this is the next step to move up in my career," she said.
About 3,000 applicants are expected to have taken the test when that part of the application process is finished. .
IMPD officials say a 3-year-old boy has died after he was shot in the head Saturday evening.
