INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Volunteers at several Central Indiana companies went out into the community to work on service projects as part of "Indy Do Day."
Thanks to a generous donation from IU Health, kids in the near north side now have a new place to play and stay active.
Volunteers from the health network teamed up with officials from George and Veronica Phalen Academy to build the new playground Friday morning.
With one in three Hoosier kids being overweight, the goal of the project is to help children at the school and in the community fight obesity.
The school's principal says they are grateful for the donation and the change it will bring to the community.
"There's no way we'd have the playground, because of the facility and the operational cost and the lack of capital costs without the donations of IU Health and Kaboom. We would have the empty space that we've been playing on for the first six weeks," Geroge and Veronica Phalen Leadership Academy Principal Jeremy Baugh told 24-Hour News 8.
