LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Police have released the name of the man arrested after a bank robbery Friday afternoon in Lafayette.
Lafayette police officers responded to a hold up alarm at the Regions Bank on Teal Road around noon.
Police said Kenneth Wetterman, 48, of Lafayette, was arrested moments later and booked into the Tippecanoe County Jail on a preliminary charge of robbery.
Police said when Wetterman went into the bank, he was wearing a white mask and dark baseball hat. Witnesses saw Wetterman leave in a gray pickup truck and were able to get a license plate number.
One officer was on his way to the bank when he spotted a vehicle fitting the description of the truck on South 18th Street. The officer turned around and confirmed that the license plate matched the plate.
Wetterman was then taken into custody.
Investigators said there was no weapon displayed and no one was injured during the robbery.
Lafayette Jeff High School and Tecumseh Junior High were put on lock down for about five minutes.
There will be no federal assistance for tornado victims in Kokomo, but the State of Indiana will appeal that ruling from the federal government.
