INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Officials in Indianapolis turned the canal green downtown Thursday afternoon for the annual Greening of the Canal.
This is the 17th year for the St. Patrick's Day activity. The event kicked off around 4 p.m. Thursday with music and food.
The greening took place at the traditional location in front of the fountain that is south of Ohio Street at West Street.
Mayor Greg Ballard along with the Hoosier Lottery joined in the fun. Several more events are planned for this weekend.

3 P.M. UPDATE: Snow began picking up a little bit in areas west of Indianapolis. Recent snowfall amounts indicate 10 inches in Vincennes, 6 1/2 inches in Martinsville, 7 1/2 inches in Bloomington and 5 inches in Seymour.
The cold weather and overnight snow created some extra work for crews on Georgia Street on Friday.
An era is ending. With buildings that in some cases date back nearly a century, the campus of Wishard Memorial Hospital will shut its doors Saturday morning.
