INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - District maps drawn up by Republicans in 2011 do not comply with redistricting requirements in 2012, the Marion County Superior Court determined Wednesday.
Indianapolis City-County Council President Maggie Lewis, a Democrat, says she is happy the court recognized the error in the maps.
"Changing maps is more than drawing lines - it is an important process that should include a close look at the data, and the end result must be a fair and non-partisan representation of all Marion county residents," she said.
Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard, a Republican, released the following statement:
"This decision represents the beginning of what we anticipated will be a multi-review process. We are respectful of the judicial process and will reserve comments on the merits until the final determination is made."
