INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Residents investigating a running water sound discovered their house was on fire Monday afternoon.
The fire happened on the southeast side around 3:14 p.m. One woman suffered slight smoke inhalation, but five other people and three animals all got out without injury.
The family heard the water sound and found the outside of their house on fire. It caused the house to fill with smoke. Overall, the house suffered an estimated $75,000 in damages.
Three adults and three children live in the home along with an alligator and two dogs. The family planned to stay with relatives.
10 A.M. UPDATE: Snow is falling in several counties, particularly south of Indianapolis. Most areas of Central Indiana have seen 2 to 6 inches of snow, with higher totals south of I-70. Counties to the northwest and northeast have seen 1 to 3 inches of snow, with some areas seeing less than an inch.
The Greene County Sheriff's Department says the state Department of Transportation plow truck went off Indiana 45 and flipped onto its passenger side in a crash early Friday.
State police say a southern Indiana man has been arrested after a six-hour standoff that began when he fired several shots at family members.
