INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Indianapolis firefighters credit working smoke detectors with alerting an east side family to a fire early Thursday.
Shortly after 12:30 a.m. fire crews were called to a townhouse in the 1200 block of East Michigan Street.
Firefighters found smoke in the attic of the residence originating with the furnace.
A family of five was awakened by the smoke detector and vacated the residence without incident and without injury.
The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes.
Damage is estimated at $65,000.
