INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - IMPD Staff Chaplain David L. Coatie received the Honorable Julia Carson Award at a Sunday ceremony at Crown Hill Cemetery.
Coatie received the award during the 4th Annual Black History Celebration.
The Julia Carson Award is presented to a person who embodies the spirit of community service of the late Honorable Julia Carson, according to a release from IMPD.
Chaplain David Coatie has served as staff chaplain for IMPD for the past three years.
Before accepting the staff chaplain position, Coatie served as a volunteer chaplain for seven years for IMPD and the Sheriff's Department.
