INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - An Indianapolis man was beaten and robbed by a group of people Monday just after he cashed his tax refund check.
At about 9:49 p.m., the man was jumped by several people and hit in the head with bottles and guns at a Speedway Gas Station, 1205 S.Lynhurst Dr., an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department report said.
He told police the suspects went through his pockets taking $3,000 in cash he just received from a tax refund check and then stole his car.
The victim was taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital for his injuries.
The report said a Speedway employee told police he saw five men in a black car walk over to the victim's car, pulled him out of the vehicle and a fight broke out. The employee said she did not see any weapons used in the fight.
Staff at an Anderson women's shelter say they're thankful thieves didn't tamper with their heating system. But, they did get away with plenty of copper.
As the year draws to a close, Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard says he's still waiting for something he asked for back in March.
