INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Officials say an the officer is in good condition at Methodist Hospital Wednesday morning after the officer and two others were shot during a routine traffic stop Tuesday evening.
The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of 36th Street and Sherman. Officials say a traffic stop was made in the area and officers attempted to remove a suspended driver from the vehicle.
One of the occupants of the vehicle pulled a gun and a struggle began over the firearm. Shots were fired.
One person was killed in the incident. Two other people were shot in the leg, their injuries are non-life threatening. An IMPD officer was shot in the wrist, he is in stable condition at an area hospital.
A fourth person in the vehicle has been detained.
Our crew on scene says there are dozens of IMPD officers on scene responding to the incident. 36th and Denny is blocked off while officers investigate.
Public Safety Director Troy Riggs says he plans to visit the officer if he does not have too many medical procedures.
