INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A teenage gang suspect and his mother were arrested after policefound gang paraphernalia inside their home related to the 'GrimmieBoyz,' a gang police say was involved in the shootings outside ofthe Indiana Black Expo.
"When they were serving the search warrant and reading it to hismother she became disruptive and verbally abusive, physicallyviolent, and resisted arrest." IMPD Sgt. Linda Jackson said.
Police say the woman, Michelle L. Hurns, works at the MarionCounty Jail, 2.
Members of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police gang unit hadthe house under surveillance when they executed a search warrant onthe home. Detectives say there was evidence of gang activity andinvolvement hanging on the walls.
Police seized several pictures, bullets and cell phones theybelieve to represent gang activity from the home.
Detectives say they found writing and pictures in the mother'sroom that lead them to charge her with conspiracy to commitcriminal gang activity and obstruction of justice.
According to police, the Grimmie Boyz are a well known streetgang who has been feuding with the gang of which suspected IBEshooter Shamus Patton is a member.
Patton, accused of shooting 9 people in downtown during blackexpo.
"I know through the past week and a half the gang unit has beenreal focused on putting this all together, on Shamus Patton's gangand group of friends, and the investigation led them to the houseon Carpenter." Jackson added.
Hurns and her son are now behind bars, and face a number ofcharges including a criminal gang activity charge.
According to police that could enhance their jail sentences iffound guilty.
In the meantime, the Marion County Sheriff's Department hasprocessed 239 people in 2010 alone that identified themselves aspart of a gang.
