INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A Pike Township teacher received quite a surprise Thursday when she was awarded a 2012 Milken Educator Award during a school assembly.
Dr. Tony Bennett participated in the surprise school assembly at Snacks Crossing Elementary to honor assistant principal Candace Ewing.
Ewing was unaware she was being considered for the award.
She received an unrestricted cash prize of $25,000 from the Milken Family Foundation. The award celebrates educators who are furthering excellence in education, according to a release.
Ewing is one of up to 40 educators who are awarded each year.
