INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - This weekend marks the start of several events leading up to the inauguration of Indiana's next governor, Mike Pence.
The Inaugural Ball Dinner and dance is Saturday night at the JW Marriott downtown.
Before the ball, the Governor-elect, with the help of his son, unpacked boxes and arranged his office at the Statehouse.
Just days before he is sworn into office, Mike Pence opened a few boxes in his new Statehouse office.
"We've got a lot of things at home and a lot of things we've collected over the years," Pence said. "It's trying to decide what to bring."
About a dozen boxes filled the office – some on the desk, others on the floor. Inside them were carefully bubble wrapped items and picture frames – images of Pence's life and experiences.
"Today's really all about making sure all the essentials are here. Family pictures and we're ready to go on day one," Pence said.
That day will be a historic one.
Monday, Pence will be sworn into office as Indiana's 50th Governor.
"For me, it's all still very humbling to be able to be in this office," Pence said. "I hope as people come in here they'll not only celebrate Indiana, but they'll also get a little bit of a feel of who I am and who my family is."
Pence told WISH-TV Photojournalist Ron Nakasone that he made the decision to not put any congressional items in the office, saying he is looking to the future.
Sunday, the Inaugural Praise and Worship Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the Indiana Convention Center. It's free and open to all.
Pence will be sworn into office Monday morning outside the Statehouse. The ceremony starts at 11 a.m. You can watch it live on WISH-TV and or at WISHTV.COM.
