ANDERSON, Ind. (WISH) - The Anderson Fire Chief says medics were following protocol when their ambulance was stolen last week.
24-Hour News 8 news partner The Herald Bulletin reports Chief Phil Rogers said leaving an ambulance open and on is standard operating procedure. Medics are required to keep their ambulances on during response situations because some materials inside need to remain at certain temperatures
At 4 a.m. Friday, Joseph Sandlin, 27, of Anderson, was arrested after he allegedly stole the ambulance that responded to a call in the Delaware Court Apartments, 120 W. 10th St. The medics were not in the vehicle during the alleged heist.
He then crashed it into five parked cars, causing significant property damage.
Rogers said the department is investigating the incident and procedures might be changed or adjusted.
