MADISON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) - An off-duty officer from the Grant County Sheriff's Office was killed in a crash near Elwood Friday afternoon.
Officers were called to SR 13 at CR 1400 N, which is north of Elwood, shortly after 3:30 p.m. to the report of a serious accident.
According to Sheriff Ron Richardson, an off-duty officer from the Grant County Sheriff's Office and his passenger were traveling south on SR 13 when a pick-up truck heading northbound turned in front of them, attempting to make a turn onto CR 1400 N.
The motorcycle hit the passenger side door of the truck, authorities say. The officer and his passenger were taken to St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood.
The officer was pronounced dead at the hospital. He has been identified as 49-year-old Michael Andry. The passenger was airlifted to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
The driver of the truck was treated and released.
