ELWOOD, Ind. (WISH) - One person was killed in a crash near Elwood that shut down Ind. 37 Tuesday morning, Madison County Sheriff Ron Richardson said.
Ind. 37 was reopened at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday.
The crash happened just before 9 a.m. on Ind. 37, near County Road 900 North, Sheriff Richardson said. A driver in a Volkswagon was northbound on Ind. 37 when it crossed the center line and collided head-on with a large box truck. The Volkswagon's driver was pinned in the wreckage and pronounced dead at the scene.
Christopher Al Therr, the driver of the box truck, was taken by ambulance to an Elwood hospital.
The name of the other victim wasn't released, pending notification of family members.
The Avon Community School Corporation says they are working closely with the Avon Police Department after inappropriate images were found on students' cell phones.
Authorities say a 78-year-old man is recovering after passers-by came to his aid when he was in the snow along a Bloomington road without a coat or shoes.
State highway officials say an eight-mile section of Interstate 65 near Lafayette will be expanded to three lanes in each direction.
