INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - One man was taken to the hospital Saturday morning following a fire on the city's west side.
The fire broke out just before 2 a.m. at Peek A Paws Grooming shop, which is located in the 4900 block of West Washington Street.
Investigators say several people were next door at Shandoggs Smoke Shop when they noticed the smell of smoke.
The group realized the shop next door was on fire.
They told officials they heard someone inside, so they started knocking out windows.
The group found that person inside and pulled him out of the shop as firefighters arrived.
The victim was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
Investigators say three businesses in the strip mall suffered fire and smoke damage.
Total damage estimates are about $75,000.
Fire crews rescued a small puppy from the fire, named Sugar. He was in good condition.
The puppy was turned over to the buildings owner.
Investigators are still trying to determine how the fire started.
Federal investigators are looking into multiple cases where counterfeiters have floated fake $100 bills. According to police reports, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department arrested three people for printing off the fake bills.
Update: According to the Lafayette Police Department, Lafayette area schools have been checked and the threat has been deemed not credible and lockdown lifted.
