INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department detectives were investigating a burglary on the 4600 block of Broadway Street.
The homeowner told police that he heard a strange noise in his living room. He followed the sound and was suddenly greeted by a gunman, demanding he lay flat on the ground.
The suspect then took a 46-inch television inside the home before leaving in a getaway car.
Police dusted the home for finger prints. The homeowner described the suspect as a black male about 5'8 and 170 pounds.
Through research, 24-Hour News 8 discovered burglaries are down 15 percent on the north side, where the home is located.
Homeowners in that neighborhood don't have a crime watch, but they do have proactive neighbors that don't hesitate to call 911 if they see something suspicious.
Despite the burglaries, we learned that residents are now doing the little things to secure their homes.
"We have an alarm system we feel safe keeping the alarm system on," said Resident Matthew Clark.
A winter storm warning is in effect for most of Central Indiana.
It's very rare that a single person can reach across national, racial, and spiritual borders to bring such hope and healing.
Dispatchers with Indiana State Police say a vehicle left the roadway Thursday night off of Interstate 69.
