INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Fire investigators with IMPD and IFD are asking anyone with information about a fire this week, that seriously injured a firefighter, to call Crime Stoppers.
The fire occurred in the 1500 block of Columbia Avenue just before 3:15 a.m. Friday and injured Pvt. Chris McGrone. During the fire, his air mask was knocked from his face, causing him to suffer smoke inhalation.
McGrone was pulled out to safety by fellow firefighters. Medics took him to IU Health Methodist Hospital in critical condition.
McGrone was in a medically induced coma. Fire officials said Sunday that he is doing well, and progressing appropriately as expected. He is able to respond to doctors' questions by squeezing a hand. IFD says this is on target for what doctors were expecting.
The fire is being investigated as arson. An award of up to $1,000 is possible for information that could lead to the arrest of anyone involved in this crime.
Anyone with information can call IFD and IMPD Fire Investigations Office at 317-327-6700 or Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS. Tips can also be sent via text. Text “INDYCS” to crimes (274637).
